Creating more business value through digital technology, meeting the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, is the main objective of Digital With Purpose. The international movement, which combines sustainability and technology, was presented at the Web Summit, in Lisbon, and brings together public and private partners from various parts of the world. .PT appears as one of the first Portuguese organizations to subscribe to the manifesto.

".PT, assuming itself as an important national partner in the ongoing digital transformation process and committed as an organization to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, joined the Digital With Purpose Manifesto, because we believe that the technological capacity and the digital empowerment of citizens will contribute, with everyone's effort, to a Humanist purpose of digital. " Luisa Ribeiro Lopes, .PT Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Digital With Purpose is an initiative of the Global Enabling Sustainability Initiative (GeSI), and the Portuguese Government, through the Prime Minister, António Costa, and the Secretary of State for the Digital Transition, André de Aragão Azevedo, announced to support the movement.

The Digital With Purpose initiative was presented with a film-manifesto, which can be found here.

"We need the Green and Digital Agendas fully aligned. The contribution that the digital transition can make to accelerate the efficiency of processes and resource management, through technological incorporation, is essential for the sustainability and future of our economy and society”, says André de Aragão Azevedo.

The movement intends to empower the various sectors of the industry, such as energy, transport, agriculture, education, health and public administration, having also identified "digital impact themes" in five priority areas: Climate Action, Circular Economy, Supply Chain, Digital Inclusion and Digital Trust. These themes are part of working groups that will evaluate the performance of each organization, which will result in the attribution of an independent Digital with Purpose certification.

Luís Neves, CEO of GeSI, considers that "it is particularly urgent to mobilize the use and deployment of digital technologies for the transition to a low carbon economy that will mitigate the worst consequences of climate change and meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals".

Open to all organizations that want to join, the initiative will be officially presented on June 1st, at the Digital Assembly, in Lisbon, during the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Business leaders from all sectors are invited to join Digital With Purpose, with the challenge of asking each other what their role would be in the design of a digital society through innovation and digital technology.

According to Vanda de Jesus, Executive Director of Portugal Digital, "this is the time to act, we are at a moment in history when digital has taken on a leading role”. And she adds: "Creating a more digital Portugal is also creating a more sustainable Portugal”.

APDC is also one of the first Portuguese organizations to subscribe to this manifesto. "The pandemic has confirmed the critical role that digital plays in the economy and society and accelerated the shift to the online world. But technology can also be instrumental in ensuring sustainable growth. For that, we must work in a true ecosystem, making commitments and guaranteeing our values. For all these reasons, APDC, as an ICT and Media platform, joined the 'Digital With Purpose' movement. We want to contribute to the ambition to build a better world for everyone and we believe that more Portuguese companies will follow in our footsteps.” Rogério Carapuça, president of APDC.
