DNS.PT Association is formally constituted

DNS.PT Association, which will assume the responsibility for the management and operation of ccTLD.PT, has just been formally constituted, starting duties from the 1st of June 2013.
The private non-profit association, led by Luisa Lopes Gueifão, will aim the management, operation and maintenance of the register of the top domain corresponding to Portugal. Pt, and based on the transparency and publicity principles, Statutes and the best national and international recommendations at the technical level, administrative and strategic applicable thereto.
The DNS.PT Association has as its founders FCT, IP - Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, IP (FCT), Associação do Comércio Eletrónico e Publicidade Interativa (ACEPI), Associação Portuguesa para a Defesa do Consumidor (DECO) and the representative designated by IANA - Internet Assigned Numbers Authority as responsible for ccTLD.pt delegation.
Luisa Lopes Gueifão, president of the Board of Directors, notes that "The DNS.PT Association is formed with the purpose of fulfilling an action strategy in accordance with the international best practices in terms of stability, security and resilience of the DNS service. We want to ensure that this new entity will be based, in terms of management, with the international multistakeholder model, mirrored since the first day in the broad participation of its advisory board, which includes representatives of entities such as ANACOM, Instituto Nacional da Propriedade Industrial (INPI), Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores, among others".
Vasco Colaço, President of DECO - Portuguese Association for Consumer Protection - stresses that "The goal of creating the DNS.PT Association has also recognized the importance for Portuguese consumers as users of a safe and effective legal system. This requirement justifies the participation of DECO in this diverse group of founders that with our participation help to give credibility to the whole process. The DNS.pt Association's role is determinant for consumers, both for businesses and for the national economy. "

This association now established add the work pursued by Fundação para a Computação Científica Nacional (FCCN), after the integration of this entity in the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, IP, following the Council of Ministers resolution, February 14th 2013, and subsequent publication of Decree-Law No. 55/2013, of April 17th 2013 . "It must be, therefore, one of the purposes mirrored in the diploma which FCT, IP aims to ensure:" the independence and autonomy of the management of top level domain of Portugal, the. PT", said FCT President, Prof.Miguel Seabra.
