The power of people!
2020 was a weird year ... unpredictable, hard, but also of great union. A year marked by the people power, the power to face fears, adapt to drastic changes in the way of working, living, socializing. If we can take anything from the past year, it is that, when we want, we have the capacity to overcome the most difficult challenges, and to find ways to reinvent ourselves and adapt to any external event that calls into question the beliefs and habits embedded in our society.
2021 started out equally unpredictable, hard ... but apparently with less union. The tiredness, the exhaustion, the "habituation” to live with this pandemic can lead to less perseverance in the fight against this crisis. In this new lockdown, we don’t see scattered rainbows, we don’t read the phrase "everything will be fine”, we do not hear singing in the windows, nor enthusiastic applause to health workers. We should see and hear, but it is not happening, and we understand why ... we are in a process of change.
We passed the stage of the shock of anxiety and fear ... we committed our energies into a phase of motivation and belief that if we unified, and reinvented ourselves, we would turn this situation around and "everything would be fine”. In view of the recurrence of new waves, we moved on to the next phase of this process, doubt, guilt, depression. This is the most critical phase of change processes. From here we will have 3 hypotheses ahead: we can escape and try to deny / ignore; we can face aggressively and try to row "against the tide”, or we can accept, and then find new energies for action, and new commitments to, in a sustained way, effectively adapt to these changes, and assume the "new normal” as just "normal".
And there is only one power capable of doing so ... the same power that made us overcome 2020, the power of people. The .PT has already proved how powerful its people are and how important it is to invest on people to ensure a strong culture, united and highly motivated teams. It is a personal pride for me to follow your evolution and it is a clear example that it is worthwhile investing on people.
So I leave you with this reflection: use this power in 2021 to continue this evolution! This is a year to continue to reinvent, now not in the ability to work remotely, to implement new work policies or to reinvent services, but to reinvent yourselves as a team. Do not let yourself be tempted to move away, do not fail to take care of each others, do not allow tiredness to make you less united. This is the year to do new things together, to look for new dynamics of communication, proximity, and to reinforce everything you have achieved to date.
And let there be no doubt that you can succeed ... because you have the greatest power of all ... the power of each of you and the power of you all together!
