EuroDIG 2025: Safeguarding human rights by balancing regulation and innovation
Between May 12 and 14, the EuroDIG took place in Strasbourg, France, organized and hosted by the Council of Europe in cooperation with the Luxembourg Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. EuroDIG is a pan-European, multistakeholder forum focused on Internet Governance Forum (IGF), whose main objective is to promote European participation in the dialogue on this topic, bringing together perspectives from different stakeholders, facilitating debate, and informing decisions regarding the Internet. This forum counts on several key institutional partners (e.g. European Commission; UNESCO; ICANN; RIPE; Internet Society, etc.) and various donors, including prominent European ccTLDs such as .eu, .de, .nl, .at, and also .pt. As a regional initiative of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), the "Messages” resulting from each edition of EuroDIG are presented at the IGF’s annual conference.
In this edition, for the second consecutive year, .PT financially supported the travel and accommodation of a young student from the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda to the event, where he actively participated alongside the youthDIG community [1]. The report prepared by this student about his participation in EuroDIG 2025 can be found attached.
This year’s theme was: "Safeguarding human rights by balancing regulation and innovation” continuing the debate initiated in the previous edition, which focused on the theme "Balancing regulation and innovation” and whose final Messages can be found here. Both editions were heavily anchored in recent technological developments brought about by Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly the political, legal, and ethical issues associated with it, as well as international processes in Internet governance, in particular WSIS+20.
