Barra Barra (//) the home of the “Portuguese” internet
That concept of "Portuguese” internet doesn’t exist! But give us an opportunity to explain, please. We know and we agree. A few days after the signature of the ambitious Declaration for the Future of the Internet, signed by more than 60 countries, including Portugal, talking about Portuguese internet is going against a fundamental principle, the internet is, and we want it to continue to be, global and non-fragmented. If we are rigorous, this wishfull thinking is not even entirely true, but that is not the theme that brings us here today. Let's move forward.

These days, the "Portuguese” internet home has opened its doors: .PT, which is responsible for registering and maintaining domain names (internet addresses) under the two-letter code that identifies Portugal on the Internet, .pt, has its own headquarters that will soon be officially baptized or inaugurated, as you wish. We immediately lift the veil, the name chosen is Barra Barra (//). In this blog, we have already explained the rationale behind this option. That said, it is literally our first home that we want to present you today.

In the timeline, let's just focus on this horizon of the 9 years since the constitution of the DNS.PT Association (.PT), the 31 years since the registration of the first domain name and the 34 years since the .pt delegation. A long journey. But it was just now, when we were once again named the ccTLD that grew the most at European level, that we started a new era with our first own headquarters, which we are infinitely proud of. This was only possible because our associates, our partners and all those who register under .pt believed in us. This is also why Barra Barra (//) is not just for .PT, Barra Barra (//) is a home for people and organizations that are committed to and believe in a more digital, more inclusive, more innovative, and more sustainable Portugal. We want to be a technological hub, we want to continue, also here and as far as possible, at the service of the Portuguese people.

Barra Barra (//) is for that – and only for that – the home of the "Portuguese” internet!

Please note: the articles on this blog may not convey the opinion of .PT, but of its author.
