The number of registrations under .pt grew by 11% in 2021 compared to 2019, a period considered pre-pandemic.
Although the growth compared to 2020 – an atypical year regarding the number of domain registrations – was lower (about 3.1%), last year 136,921 new registrations were recorded, which represents a new annual record. According to CENTR data, the average growth of European ccTLDs (country code top-level domains) was 3.7% compared to the previous year.
February and March were the months with the highest growth compared to the previous year (14.7% and 19.4%, respectively), as well as the highest number of new registrations (12,996 and 13,797), in an increase driven by the mandatory of confinement, which led citizens and companies to bet on digital.
In turn, the summer, which is usually the period of the year when the number of registrations slows down, once again saw numbers in line with the same period of 2020 and above those verified before the pandemic. The months of June, July and September surpassed the barrier of 10 thousand registrations while August surpassed 9 thousand.
In 2021, 39,315 domains were also registered via Empresa na Hora, 1,857 more than in 2020, namely through the 3em1.pt initiative, which gives those who create a company, association or branch on the spot, a package of free services, at period of one year, which includes a .pt domain, a tool for website development and host and emails.
